I woke up this Saturday morning to an alarming text saying that Bernie Mac had passed away. I can hardly describe the feeling that came over me. I love Bernie Mac. Always have been a fan. He’s one of my top comedians of all time and will remain there. He’s contributed his genius to movies like Friday, Ocean’s Eleven movies and How to Be a Player. He’s more than familiar to TV and we can’t forget the epic stand up the Kings of Comedy. Reports are saying that Mac had a lung disease that was said to be in remission since 2005. On August 1st he was hospitalized for a lung infection which provoked the pneumonia that he died from early this morning. It’s crazy because last Monday, his publicist had to offset rumors that Mac was already dead with a statement assuring the public that he was alive but sick. She continued to say Mac was “responding well to treatment.” Obviously not :(

Bernie Mac, 50, died August 9, 2008

comedian, father, brother, actor, lover, husband, companion, friend, role model, hero, savior, pioneer, an overall great man and attributed to the world’s happiness!!

WE WILL MISS YOU BERNIE!!! WE WILL ALL CARRY YOUR MEMORY WITH US!

Mac has a few upcoming films, one of them called “Soul Men” due this November. Starring Samuel L. Jackson and Jennifer Coolidge

Mac will also appear with Robin Williams, John Travolta, Seth Green and Matt Dillon in the comedy “Old Dogs” due next April

I’VE USED “SOMMABITCH” AS A SCREEN NAME!!! THAT’S THE IMPACT YOU HAVE BERNIE!!! RIP

What’s good my lovelies? This week’s show was very interesting. It was a full house, again. We had not one but two beautiful, female models in the building. Check site!

Anyway- we had another legendary Spit SESH with Sadat X, Twainie of BCC, Mickey Factz (dope) and Lloyd’s (the R&B singer) newest co-sign, P Seven. Sadat was classic and especially cool to see him rock now being one of the greats of the Golden Era. Twainie also came. He is the one responsible for all those classic OGC reggae infused joints. He added a new element to the session that definitely complimented the ambiance on the set. Then, you have Mickey Factz. Honestly, I didn’t give Mickey Factz’s music a listen before we had him up on the show. I know that’s bad but you know me I do mad shit so life’s been unusually hectic lately! Anyhow- Mickey Factz is sick. I thought he was going to be another goofy rapper- but how bout I’m nervous. I feel a storm a’brewing. I’m starting to put 2 and 2 together.

Look who’s on the frontline of Generation Next- dudes like Charles Hamilton, Cory Gunz, Rain, Cool Kidz, Kidz in the Hall, etc. I think we might be getting some real, quality feel good music so why am I feeling nervous? My stomach is in knots anticipating the impact of these kids and maybe not even these specific kids but ones that will follow in their footsteps. These kids are smart. Yes, I’m saying kids- not particularly because they’re young in age but because kids symbolize innonence and the most pure time of your life where you aren’t influenced by the cruel realities of life and adulthood. I’m not trying to take away from their “gangsta” or street cred- or belittling them in any way. I’m more impressed by their choices to go against the formula created by the corporations and consumers. The “money making” formula. The easy way out. Make a quick buck with a ringtone record. Maybe you get two of those if you’re lucky these days.

The entertainment industry overall- with non-challenging programs on TV, oversaturated with reality show of sorts to microwave music with messages lost and unimportant while image and status levels are through the roof. We got lost in material things. We got lost in gossip. We got lost in scandel. We got lost in album sales and equating album quality to dollars made. But, that’s evolution. Change isn’t always agreeable but we have to accept it and rest assure knowing that time never stands still and neither does change- so before you know it- that moment will pass and a new moment will be born. So just think- that means your own opportunities are endless, as long as you seize the change! That’s what my kids are doing. Yes, now they’re my kids. Because I’m watching them grow up. We all are.

If you follow closely, you’ll witness a transition of interest in the exterior switching to curiousity of interest in what’s IN the interior. What I mean by that is- people are curious by nature. We forgot about the leasons learned and the stories told through music. My kids are thinking. They’re making it harder for us. It’s not Rap 101 anymore it’s AP Hip Hop. They make us revist the days when you had to discuss raps, analyze them, break them down, argue about them, translate them, interpurt them into your own words so that you, yourself could relate and understand. I’m not saying these kids are MIT geeks or Harvard historians- giving you an SAT rap. I’m just saying these kids are forcing you to use more brain power to consume the music.

I want to be challenged. I want to go look shit up in books or online to understand what Jay-Z meant when he said “blame it on Peter North and Iran-Contra.” I’m tired of Hip Hop- NEW Hip Hop that is. There will be a few joints here and there but I’m not jumpin out the window after a Lil Wayne album. Or Nas. Fuck that. I’m sick of gimmicks. I’m sick of the marketing of the album being more important than the content of the album. I revert back to what I fell in love with. Now I know what Common meant when he said he “he used to love her,” because I’m feeling that way myself. Not there yet though cuz ya girl is a real romantic and I don’t give up on my man! Just in time my kids came along and gave me hope. A NEXT era is on the horizon. So don’t jump yet folks, the children are our future! Smart Rap is what it is!

BONUS CHALLENGE: Someone find me a line from a present day record that’s parrallel in teachings to this:

It started on the sands of land of the mother
Word to mother king like my father
My style survived slave ships whips and chains hardships
Still through all this the praise roll off my lips
Bring your guns chains and tone force your religion
On me cut my hair the vibes still exist
To destroy the molesters of my heritage
But they conceal the drums of evil my loyal lineage
King of kings, God of gods
Like my ancestors drums I beat the odds
More mics killed than slaves during the middle passages
Who rapes and ravages and calls us savage?
Jungle bunny, I’m not mo’ funny, I’m mo’ deadly
They know one day we’ll learn how to use it
That’s why they fear our jungle music

LOL AND THE POINT OF THIS ENTRY WAS TO SHOW YOU THIS VIDEO CLIP.

AND!!! See I got caught up in real shit- but I wanted to say that I wasn’t feeling this dude P Seven. I’m sorry to say that because he’s Boston bretheren but fuck that I’ma tell you why I’m mad! First, he was acting disrespectful and arrogant. I hate that. Second- he had zero mic ettiquete and was not recognizing the gangsta of Factz, Twainie and Sadat. Don’t come from Boston and do that. Kanye- Jim Jones patna! Lucky that wasn’t Summer Jam. Ok and lastly he was hoggin the mic. I just didn’t think it was appropriate behavior when you have three other people hungry to spit too. He wasn’t garbage but the attitude killed it for me. You be the judge!

Hoooooooooooooooooolla at B

The Round Table Show: Hip Hop Gossip Week of 8/6/2008

So I did my own reporting on the murder of 24 year old, Ingrid Rivera. I made my own speculations before the official detailed reports were released- statinging my thoughts on what may have happened. I’ve seen these situtaions one too many times in the clubs so my initial inclination was that Rivera was probably highly intoxicated and when asked to leave the establishment she gave security a hard time. Still no reason to kill someone. Anyway- maybe in the maylay of getting the belligerent and drunk woman out of the club she fell or struck her head? You know how it gets sometimes when there’s a chaotic situation going on. It’s possible the girl fell down those narrow steps. And security probaly got shook and nervous and didn’t want to be implicated with the murder so they stashed the body in an obscure spot. Especially since Spotlight LIVE is one of the hottest clubs in New York City. (Not for long!)

Now we know- that Ingrid Rivera was beaten to death by Syed Rahman- one of the club’s bouncers who has admitted in hitting the woman in the head with a steel pipe.

The next thing I’m about to say is meant with no disrespect to the deceased and family of the deceased but this girl was not small. In fact, she was big enough to inflict some damage on her own. Police said that the body was “dragged” and you could make that conclusion because when they found her- her dressed was hiked up- indicated that she was pulled into the utility closet with force. This guy was probably sweating missiles by the time he was donw.

This guy Syed is skinny. There has to be something else to this investigation. I guess we will soon find out.

They’re saying that Rivera got kicked out the club for going into the MENS bathroom which seems f***ing ridiculous! And, Rivera’s friend said that the security gaurd lured her up to the roof- claiming Rivera was there- but then when she went up- she realized Rivera was not there and insisted that Rahman was trying to make sexual advancements on her.

So strange…

Did I mention this guy is Indian? What’s up with the Asians going crazy lately? They got a thing for beatin people in the head or just straight up removing it!!!

Shout out to my two half Jap brothers!!!!

Oh and it’s not the first time Spotlight has seen random acts of violence. Last January- 5 men were stabbed after a brawl started in the club that was carried out into the streets.

First of all, Divine of the DEY is one of my most favorite people in the world. Monse of Hot 97 actually introduced us and brought him to my radio show over a year ago. It was love at first sight from that moment on. Although Divine sent me music, regularly- I never had the opportunity to meet Yeyo and Elan- the other components of the group.

This week, the Dey- in their entirety came to the Round Table show. Dey should be for “delightful” b/c these three were just a huge ball of energy and love. I love, love, love ELAN!!! She’s this tiny little thing with a HUGE voice. And Yeyo- that man has been in the gym on some serious shit!!! Check em out as they perform their smash hit “Give You the World” LIVE on the Round Table Show!!!

So in the midst of the whole murder on the rooftop of Spotlight Live in NYC- another story broke in the Green Point section of Brooklyn. Most people know I’m a BK girl myself- living in the depths of the blocks of Bushwick- so this situation hits close to home. Not because this happened in BK but this is exactly why cabs turn me down, kick me out or give me dirty looks when I tell them I’m headed to BK.

Ok so early this morning- 3 women flagged a cab down on Flatbush avenue. Reports are saying the women got to their destination on Franklin Street and refused to pay their fare. The girls proceeded to exit the cab- still protesting non-payment for the ride. I’m sure some sort of screaming match flared up and that’s when one of these gangsta ass chicks let off a shot that hit the cabbie in the eye- leaving him critically injured. I think they know who the shooter is but Police are still looking for the other 2 girls. So those of you that like to snitch- call crimestoppers if you feel like you want to assist in the investigation. I hear there’s a 15k reward involved. (sidebar: do people really get that?)

Anyway- the point is- these girls fucked my whole cab swag up. I felt like it was just getting easier to persuade taxi drivers to take me into the belly of BK- this shit goes down and folks like myself- get fucked. Now I have to start all over again.

Prayers go out to the cabbie. He was shot in the eye so that’s most likely irreversible damage.

Oh UPDATE!!!! Rivera- the girl found beaten to death in a rooftop utility closet may have been beaten to death with a pipe by one of the clubs bouncers. Police arrested the bouncer, early this morning at his parent’s house. They’re saying he kicked Rivera out of the club but then called her back in through an ‘employees only entrance’ where he escorted her up to the roof in a freight elevator.

So- me being the fiery aries that I am- always has something new cooking in the kitchen. Although I usually chef up gourmet gifts for you guys- there’s always a chance for a blunder here and there. What we like to do on the Round Table show is create “unique situations” if you will. We like to put people together that probably wouldn’t ever link up, public ally. We used this method with Lil Mama & Nina B, Charles Hamilton & Crooked I, Vic Damone & Loaded Lux to give you a few examples of our legendary pairings.

Last week we had an extremely special show. I’m a HUGE fan of Hip Hop music as well as a product of the culture. This doesn’t necessarily mean I know EVERYTHING about it. Like any student of history- I try to absorb as much as possible from my environment and those around me. I love learning from people and experiences way more than text readings. Although book smarts and streets smarts go hand in hand- I’ve always been more interested being in the “streets” and getting my knowledge from the source itself.

I was totally wrecking my brain- thinking of something hot that we could do with all the producers that we featured for Part 1 of “Influential Instrumentals.” We had Bangladesh- the producer of “A Milli” and that’s it. LOL. No, that’s not it but that’s all we care about at the moment. The iconic, Bronx native- Buckwild also joined us. Sean C & LV- the masterminds behind 6 of Jay-Z tracks on the American Gangster album graced us as well as super producers Just Blaze and Swizz Beats. It was kind of crazy because we asked all the guys to stick around until everyone finished their segments so we could do this massive battle of the brains trivia challenge- but in the end- Just Blaze & Swizz Beats were the last two men standing. Picture that? The two that have the most fame, most money and most production credit stayed to humor us with the debut of “In the Crates” trivia challenge. That’s why they’re on top- clearly.

So- anyway, my questions may have been too hard or obscure or not thought out but honestly I changed up the format so many times because it’s a very tricky thing to quiz on specific technical topics since I myself am not familiar with production equipment or how to use it. With that being sad- check out the clip. We a lil ghetto! At least we’re taking risks and stepping out the box.

Since the live taping last Wednesday night, this Epicsode has got dumb plays!!! All my fellow bloggers have showed it tons of love! Of course love does not exist without hate lurking in the shadows- and my main criticism from the internet gangsters was that I had an “attitude problem” as some others had a problem with my race with comments like “go back to your country” which is pretty puzzling since I am in my country (SMH). I know who some of the comments are from too. I especially love the comments saying that I shouldn’t bother interviewing but rather drop down and get my eagle on while flashing the camera. Too bad it’s not a perfect world.

Without further adieu

So I guess the next time your in the mood for some Silence of the Lambs type shit- buy a ticket to a remote location in Canada. This is pure madness. So apparently, this Chinese guy named Vince Weiguang Li went on a rage endused killing spree. Witnesses said that Li was armed with a knife and some scissors that he used to kill a 22 year old carinval worker before he beheaded the man which he later used to taunt the police with. Yes, that’s right people. Li probably spent a good 5 minutes trying to cut this guys head off. And when he finally succeeded- he ran around with it like a trophy. When he got tired from the parading of the head- he took a seat and had a meal…of limbs. Sources say that Li began cutting off apendages and eating them.

First I’d like to say what the fuck is happening in the world that Asians are doing psycho shit like this? It used to be just white men that enjoyed orchestrating horrific and unmentionable acts of violence but ever since the campus massacre in VA-I’ve reconsidered “reconsidering” (lol) my stereotypical beliefs of Asians being passive and submissive. That’s racist, I know- but don’t act like it’s not a shocker to you. From reserved and well-mannered to diving into the buffet table head first- Li has set a new high for insane shit that goes down on a Greyhound.

It’s sad because there’s not that much mention of the kid that was killed- but that again is due to the bewilderment of the public being consumed with the idea that someone was crazy enough to do the unspeakable.

Anyway- RIP to Tim McLean. Although Li has not copped a plea yet, he has indicted that he is guilty and asked the judge to “just kill me.”

Interesting news coverage fact: A few of the reports mentioned that the passengers on the bus were watching “The Legend of Zorro” as the violence ensued. And this is relevant because?????? Are you insinuated that Zorro motivated the Li? Or is that just a random fact? Either way it’s a very strange observation to mention.

“We’re in the middle of Zorro and next thing you know you hear somebody scream and somebody’s getting stabbed and I look back and there’s a big man holding a little feller against the wall and you could see a cutting motion,” says bus passenger Cory Homstead.

In the midst of this “bad press” for Greyhound- the bus line launched a billboard campaign that stated “There’s a reason you’ve never heard of ‘bus rage.’”

Not very appropriate to claim post savage murder, so they scrapped the ads.

And I always thought she was a bimbo- but I definitely co-sign this move! Paris and Rhiana 08!!!

This past Sunday, rapper Lil Kim celebrated her birthday at one of New York City’s most poppin’ night clubs. Spotlight Live, located in the heart of Times Square, garnered success from DSA’s (Shante Daz and Eric Nicks’ company) infamous “Spotlight Live Showcases” usually done every two weeks. With celebrities of all levels of caliber gracing the elegant venue- it has really become the city’s new Apollo. I’ve seen everyone from Jay-Z to Denzel Washington up in that beetch- so yes- the groupies have been alerted by text message to add 2nd Tuesdays to their calendars.

Nevertheless, with every good thing comes a shit load of possibility for bad things to happen. Apparently, a young woman and party goer of the Queen B’s official B-day bash was reported “missing” by her mother on Tuesday. Friends stated that the last time they saw Ingrid Rivera was at the party. This morning reports have confirmed that the body of the 24 year old Hispanic female was found yesterday afternoon in a rooftop utility closet of Spotlight Live. A maintenance worker discovered her- bloody from a head wound, and her dress hiked up, indicating she may have been dragged into the secluded area intentionally. Although all the details have not been released, some sources say that the girl was beaten to death. A friend of the victim stated that Rivera had argued with the club’s manager during the party. Some witnesses said that the venue’s management kicked Rivera out of the party because she was “drunk.” There is no official connection with Lil Kim and I don’t speculate there will be.

This situation particularly catches my attention because women need to be more careful, period. Not in the clubs, not at night, not on the train- PERIOD! It’s becoming more and more of a common case scenario for women in New York. There have been sooooooooo many times that I’ve enjoyed myself- let’s say a little “too much”- while out partying, totally wasted. You know the potential of crazy shit that could’ve happened to me while drunk?! It’s scary to think about. If you wake up the next morning not remembering much- or remembering embarrassing shit that you don’t ever want to think about again- you need to chill out. Or at least have a designated defender to ward off any “drunken hot girl” predators. Anyway- long story short- but true story- I get sexually harassed every day. Now there are different levels of sexual harassment that every woman gets subjected too. The first level would be the group that includes things like lewd comments, cat calls and saying stuff like “God Bless You Mami”- don’t let the religious connotation fool you- they have sex in their eyes when they use the Lord’s name.

Now the second level is when you know the person- and they constantly get at you- if it’s telling you how good you look to asking you out on dates. Now this may sound like “courting” but it’s actually unwanted and unwarranted. This often times happens on the work place, and since there is so little room for corporate growth for females- we tend to remain passive and sweep these advancements under the rug. We say “no,” yall think it’s “yes.” That has always been the strain between men and women- the power element dominates free will in many instances in the past, present and surely the future. Men are physically stronger- so when they realized that they can kick our asses to do whatever they want- it became a worldwide epidemic. It’s like all the men in the world passed the word along that brute strength gets you whatever you want in life. That’s when women became the housing facility for their offspring as well as the caretaker of the home. Now that sounds very brash and impetuous- I know what you’re thinking some of you out there- “this girl is a feminist, bitter bitch!” But, I’m not a feminist in the sense that I hate men- because I love them. I just believe that this is the pitiless reality of the power of women in the history of the world.

Okay let me give you the last two levels of sexual harassment that you may not know that many women endure. The third level can be from someone you may or may not know and involves gratuitous touching. So many times, men have rubbed my butt or held my hand too long or touched my leg when it was totally unprovoked and I always wondered what the hell gave you the idea that I wanted that? Does it say molest me on my forehead? Cop a feel for free? And how uncomfortable and awkward is it for us to have to counteract those actions when it’s someone we know and most likely have to deal with on a regular basis? We don’t want to fight- we are lovers and nurturers but at the same time we’re also very sharp with our moves although many times we have to move in silence to avoid being detected by the haters, trying to keep us down in the ranks. And, like I said before- there isn’t much room for us in the business world- so we take a lot of shit to keep our livelihoods progressive. It’s a sad thing, but we’re real warriors- and like every movement- we will have our time to reign soon. This level of sexual harassment also can come from strangers- which is very hard to rationalize. I’ve been there myself a few times. For example- you’re riding the train on a Monday morning during rush hour on the express 4 from Union Square to Grand Central Station- a man pushes up closer than normal. Now the trains are almost always fully packed during rush hour traffic. So packed that sometimes your purse which normally hangs from your shoulder is now resting ON your shoulder. Anyway- to keep it moving- some sick bastards prey on these situations and take advantage of the overcrowded subway cars to cop feels. In my case, and this happened twice to me in six months, a perv actually pulled out his penis and persisted to rub it on my backside. This one minute ride gives these guys just enough time to jack off. They love it! They get a thrill out of it! And their goal is to bust all over you! My perp didn’t get that much satisfaction out of me but still- I didn’t wake up that morning asking for “stranger penis” on my ass. VIOLATION! But again we go through it.

The last level of sexual harassment is the most serious and it includes violence and force. Although the other levels all include force- this level is about physical force being used on a woman to get something sexually or emotionally stimulating from their victims. Sad to say- but some men enjoy the discomfort they know they can inflict. They enjoy watching us squirm and resist- it turns some guys on. Our pleas to stop are their green light to go further- until it’s a full fledge infringement of a woman’s mind, body and soul. Rape occurs, savage beatings take place and in the worst case- murder. I could go in really deep with this one- but I’ve already killed you guys with my female power breakdown! lol anyway- WE go through this shit every day. Women all over the world are getting raped, assualted, subjected to demeaning acts, compensated less, passed over for promotions, and disregarded in the home and office! But we still here son!

Hey guess what guys? We are in the age of high-tech weapons and anyone can pull a trigger or press a button! Don’t let a woman get her hands on some nukes! We’re smarter and way more strategic than you guys too! JOKING :) Equality would be ideal and it’s definitely inspiring to see that America almost had a female presidential candidate which is monumental for our history.
Oh- hate to say this- but shout out to Paris Hilton for firing back and the” old whitey” BKA John McCaine. I posted the video if you haven’t seen it yet!
Progress is a slow process but we ain’t got nothing but time!!!
